Check Out this Video Explaining the Difference Between Styling and Design

If you ever wondered what the difference between styling and design was, you need not do so any more. Autoline.TV reports on this, and tries to dispel the idea that the two words can be interchanged – it says they can’t and stand for different, yet intrinsically linked, concepts.

Presenter Jim Hall explains that design stands for proportions, and the overall look and feel, while styling is something that comes in to complete, and add a new dimension to it. I will use a different example than his whiskey glass one, and try cars, for a change…

So, for instance, a Volkswagen Passat has a lot of (clean, simple) design going on, and this means it will never be displeasing to the eye, however, for me at least, its look does not draw you in for a closer look. Now, let’s move on to the old Passat CC, now plain CC, which uses the same basic ingredients for a less practical but much more stylish proposition – it’s stylish because it was deliberately styled this way…

If the distinction is still not clear to you, the video posted below goes deeper into the discussion and may shed more light.
