Toyota Updates its Classic Crown Sedan Series Like it's 1984

If you're looking for classic Japanese cars in the 1980s sense of the term, then it doesn’t get any better than the Japanese domestic market Crown, and no, we're not talking about the Crown Athlete, Majesta and Royal, but the Crown Sedan, Comfort Deluxe, Comfort SG (taxi) and Comfort Instruction Car (for license permit tests).

You see, Toyota offers two distinct Crown sedan lineups in Japan, the classic you see pictured here and a modern model, the 14th generation of which was presented last December.

The boxy one that pays tribute to just about everything that made Toyota and other Japanese carmakers capture the market in the days of Ronald Reagan, received some minor enhancements for the 2014 model year, including, but not limited to, built-in VSC & TRC traction control and stability systems for all versions, and a revised speedometer and tachometer with an illumination control function [sic].

The 4,830mm (190.2 inches or roughly the same size as the North American Toyota Camry) sports a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 111hp (113PS) linked to a 4-speed automatic turning the rear wheels.

Prices in Japan range from 1,738,800 Yen to 2,973,600 Yen, which come to about US$17,800 - US$30,400 or €12,900 - €22,000 at today's exchange rates.
