GM has taken the manufacturer Nürburgring lap-time challenge quite seriously the past few years, with its best runs recorded by the 2012 Corvette C6 ZR1 (7:19.63) and the 2012 Corvette C6 Z06 (7:22.68). Today, GM told us that the brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 turned the notorious Nordschleife in 7:37.47.
While slower than the more expensive Corvettes, this lap time puts it ahead of other sports cars like the regular Lexus LFA (7:38 by Sport Auto magazine – the LFA Nürburgring Edition did it in 7:14.64), the new Porsche 911 Carrera S (7:37.9) and even the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 (7:40) and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (7:40).
Not bad at all for an American pony car, wouldn't you agree (even though we still don't know the asking price for the top Camaro)?
You can read more details about the new Camaro Z28 here, but we'll just mention that it sports a Corvette-sourced 7.0-liter V8 delivering "at least 500 horsepower (373 kW)" that channels ponies to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox with close-ratio gearing.
