As part of BMW’s longterm partnership with the MotoGP world motorcycling championship, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe has been chosen as the official safety car for the 2013 season. Sporting a livery that includes BMW M’s traditional colors, the M6 Gran Coupe MotoGP safety car is a common sight at motorcycle races, but not so much on the roads.
That changed recently as BMW’s Paris brand store George V had the safety car on display and didn’t hesitate to take it for a ride on the streets of the French capital. Although the car lacks the emergency lights on the roof, it looks like the real MotoGP safety car. One thing is certain: it looks and sounds spectacular on Paris’ fashionable boulevards.
As a quick reminder, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine developing 560 hp and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. Mated to a seven-speed M double-clutch gearbox, the unit allows the M6 Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.
