The real strength of the Gran Turismo franchise has always laid in its large and diversified selection of cars first, then everything else complimenting it on the side. That’s why the latest news regarding the next installment, number six, coming from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, has us quite interested…
The idea is that a selection of vehicles, proposed under the umbrella of the annual Gran Turismo Awards, one representing a unique category, will make it directly into the game from the show floor.
These are: Best Truck or SUV, Best Hot Rod, Best Domestic Automobile, Best European Import, and Best Asian Import – there’s also the People’s Choice Award too.
The judging part will be carried out by “an expert in the field with a background in the automotive media or car building business.” The people’s choice will be chosen by fans of the game who will have the opportunity to Like photos of the proposed cars uploaded to the official game Facebook page – whichever gets the most wins. The victor will be announced November 5.
Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the series and President of Polyphony Digital said:
“The Gran Turismo Awards at SEMA are another testament to how real-life automotive culture influences Gran Turismo in the digital realm. I’m really excited to see which car our dedicated fans will choose to represent the 2013 People’s Choice Award. We have been coming to the SEMA for 11 years now and I think the fans will be blown away by the innovative car designs at this year’s show.”
