Scoop: Watch and Hear the New Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe

We don't know yet what Mercedes-Benz's plans are for a V12-powered AMG version of the upcoming S-Class Coupe (S65 AMG), but the bi-turbocharged V8 S63 AMG Coupe. is a given and we now have a spy video of the car filmed in Germany.

The sporty version of Benz's 5 meter long S-Class Coupe with the AMG badge will borrow the S63 AMG sedan's 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, and is expected to produce the same output and torque figures at 577 hp (585 PS) / 5,500 rpm and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) available between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm, respectively.

The eight-cylinder mill will be linked to an AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission driving the rear wheels – there's a chance Mercedes will also offer an all-wheel drive version of the same model.

Redesigned bumpers, intakes and wheels along with a tweaked chassis and interior, will be part of the S63 AMG package that should be released to the public within the next year or so.

Mercedes Says S-Class Coupe will be "Very Close" to the Concept

The design of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe won't change much over the concept displayed at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, said Mercedes design boss Jan Kaul. The German executive added that the concept car uses many production parts from the real car, which is scheduled to arrive in showrooms next year.

According to Kaul, the production version of the S-Class Coupe is about 30mm (1.18in) higher and about 20mm (0.78in) narrower than the study, while the center of the nose cone is marginally higher and has less of a shark nose. The series production model will also ride on smaller 20-inch wheels compared to the concept’s 21-inch rims.

“Although the car is part of the S-class family with the prominent dropping line detail on the side of the car, the stretched proportions are completely different, with the greenhouse pulled right back. The car has a high shoulder and deep shoulders over the rear wheels,” Kaul told Autocar magazine.

Kaul, who was lead designer for the interior of the study, admitted that the cabin is slightly further from what the real car will look like. “The overall interior architecture is from the production model. With the dashboard we split it into two, separating the upper and lower elements, emphasizing that with the trim,” he said.

The interior, however, contains production elements like the large LCD display, the center console switchgear, the steering wheel, central control dial and much of the door switchgear. On the other hand, the huge aluminum door trims and the vent designs will not be seen on the production version.
