Hyundai Releases Official Renderings of All-New 2015 Genesis Sedan

No more camouflage, no more pixelating reflections or reader shots; this is it, the 2014/2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan. It’s not the actual car, in the metal, but it’s the next best thing: an official rendering released by the manufacturer’s research and development center. Officially, “the purpose of the pre-launch media event was to promote its domestic launch scheduled later this year.”

As you already know, it was designed under the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. It makes the car look modern and imposing, but a bit too much of a mishmash between the premium Euro brands, in my opinion, as I detect hints of Audi, Jaguar and even the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Originality is not the first thing that comes to mind when taking in its shape, but it looks classy enough to wear any luxury German marque’s badge, and that is high praise.

Hyundai is also keen to point out that a lot of work has been done on its chassis which now features more ultra-high-strength steel in its construction. The suspension it comes with will be stiffer than before, and will be electronically controlled via the brand’s Advanced Traction Cornering Control (or ATCC). “Furthermore, Rack-mounted Motor Driven Electric Power Steering (R-MDPS) was first applied to the model with a variable gear ratio, which provides high-speed stability and direct response at low and medium speeds,” says Hyundai.

All-wheel drive will also be offered as an option (for the first time in the model’s history), in the form of Hyundai’s own HTRAC system that electronically shuffles torque between the two axles. V6 and V8 engines are expected to be on offer.

Hyundai Genesis and Nissan and Infiniti SUVs Recalled Over Unrelated Brake Problems

While unrelated between them, Hyundai's and Nissan / Infiniti's latest recall actions both concern issues with the braking system.

In the case of the Japanese carmaker, the group is recalling 151,695 examples of certain model year 2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinders built from April 18, 2012, through September 20, 2013; model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 crossovers manufactured from September 15, 2011, through January 16, 2013; and model year 2014 Infiniti QX60s made from January 17, 2013, through September 20, 2013

"In the affected vehicles, during light braking on rough roads, the antilock brake system (ABS) brake pressure output software may lead to an increase in stopping distance," Nissan told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

To fix the issue, Nissan and Infiniti dealers will simply reprogram the ABS, free of charge, of course, with customers to be informed about the service schedule in the coming weeks.

Hyundai on its behalf has posted a recall that affects 27,500 Genesis sedans from the 2009 through 2012 model years over faulty brakes, which have led to 23 complaints and one accident report on NHTSA's website.

The Korean brand said that there are "potential durability issues" with the brake system's Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit, and that the latest recall is a follow-up to the one made last March as it didn't include all vehicles affected.

"Hyundai previously initiated a service campaign in March of 2013 to replace the brake fluid in the subject vehicle population," the automaker said in a statement sent to USA Today.

New 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Scooped Completely Naked! [New Photo]

While we gave you a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new generation 2014 (possibly 2015MY in N.A.) Hyundai Genesis saloon with our rendering made by Josh Byrnes earlier this year, it’s time to show you the actual, real-life version of the car that was spied without a single trace of camouflage in its home market of South Korea.

This is likely the South Korean domestic market version of the new Genesis, but as with the current model, we don’t expect any notable changes on the North American edition of the car that has been confirmed for a world premiere at the next Detroit Motor Show in January 2014.

As you can see for yourselves, Hyundai has stepped up its efforts in the design department offering the new Genesis sedan a more distinct and edgier look with styling cues previewed by the 2013 Detroit auto show HCD-14 Concept.

As far as other details are concerned, we've learned that besides the regular rear-wheel drive editions, for the first time, the new Genesis sedan will offer the option of all-wheel drive. Hyundai is likely to continue to offer the 3.8-liter V-6 Lambda and 5.0-liter V-8 Tau engines, possibly tweaked to deliver more power and better fuel economy. A diesel and a hybrid have been rumored, but not officially confirmed.

Update I: The person featured next to the car requested that we remove his image as well as his reflection on the vehicle, hence the pixelated parts on the car.

Update II: We discovered a second picture of the new Genesis, this time, revealing its profile lines.

Tremendously Stupid Yet Remarkable Overtake in Korea

How can an occurrence be both ill advised and amazing at the same time? Well, it happens that you can actually have both - when the decision to make a move is bad or unwise but your actions afterwards amend the situation you put yourself in.

Something of the sort happened in this video, purportedly shot in South Korea, when the driver of what looks like a Hyundai Genesis (judging by the rear lights), foolishly attempted to overtake the camera-car from the right lane, squeezing behind a truck.

Yet, the situation somehow worked out in an amazing way with the Genesis swerving around the lorry and the driver saving his head. As you would imagine, his next pass was much more civil…

Scoop: Hyundai's All-New 2014 Genesis Sedan Nearing Production

If someone were to tell you 10 years ago that Hyundai and its sister company Kia would try to battle Germany's finest car brands with a rear-wheel drive luxury sedan, you would probably laugh at their face.
Today, the German's are not in the least amused by the Koreans efforts, which started with the Hyundai Genesis premium sedan that was launched in production trim in 2008.
Surprisingly for an Asian model, the Genesis sedan has aged well cosmetically, though, in all fairness, Hyundai's designers did take some styling notes from their counterparts in Munich…
Nevertheless, Hyundai wants to keep its mid-size model relevant against the competition, so it's currently completing the development of the second generation Genesis Sedan, which according to Hyundai Motor Company CEO Kim Choon-ho, will launch towards the end of 2013.

Hyundai Airs Four More Super Bowl XLVI Ads

The onslaught of Super Bowl commercials continues today with four more spots from Hyundai, in addition to the South Korean firm's Veloster Turbo "Cheetah" ad that we showed you earlier today.
From the new spots, the one that stands out the most for us is the "All for One", which is a 60-second commercial that will air just before the big game starts. The ad features almost 200 actual Hyundai team members humming to the sounds of "Gonna Fly Now" from the movie "Rocky, and was filmed at the brand's Montgomery plant in Alabama.
