Jaguar F-Type R Coupe Keeps Tail Hanging Out in New Review

With the promise of much improved overall body stiffness over the convertible, the new Jaguar F-Type Coupe is so far shaping up to be a much more incisive track machine. Engineers say it’s 80 percent stiffer, and all the impressions we’ve heard of it so far do seem to confirm that this has had the desired effect on the car’s character and handling.

Land Rover May Use Jaguar’s Alloy Platform for New Range Rover Model Larger than Evoque

Revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year, Jaguar’s C-X17 crossover concept introduced the brand’s new aluminum architecture that will underpin many future Jaguars, beginning with the new sedan due in 2015 that will rival the BMW 3-Series.

While the fate of the C-X17 is not clear yet, it looks like the aluminum platform is very attractive to Jaguar’s sister brand Land Rover. The off-road vehicle specialist may use the architecture to build a new model for the Range Rover lineup.

According to a report from Automotive News Europe, which quotes a source familiar with the plan, the new Range Rover would be positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

Analysts say the new Range Rover, code-named L560, will make the platform profitable. “This will have higher pricing, higher volumes and higher contribution margins than any of the Jaguar variants,” Max Warburton from Bernstein Research wrote in a recent report on Jaguar Land Rover. “We believe JLR product planners expect the L560 to sell up to 80,000 units, making it the most profitable variant by far,” he added.

Jaguar Land Rover is investing £1.5 billion (€1.79 billion) to develop the new platform, which analysts say will underpin a production version of the C-X17 crossover as well. For Land Rover, the lightweight platform will bring significant benefits in terms of dynamics, fuel-efficiency and emissions. The report also says the source described the styling of the new Range Rover as “car-like on steroids.”

The L560 is expected to have a similar price to the Land Rover Discovery large SUV.

Chris Harris Slithers About on Wet Track in Jaguar XKR-S GT

The Jaguar XKR-S GT does not have a single horsepower over the regular XKR-S. Its straight line performance figures are better, though, as are its cornering characteristics, so Chris Harris has had a go in one to tell us how usefully the extra cash you’re forced to shell out has been spent, and if the upgrades work.

Not that it really matters, frankly, because only 30 will be made for the US and Canada, while an additional 10 right-hand drive examples will be delivered to UK buyers – that’s all!

Harris’ first impression of the car around a very slippery wet track is that its steering is much more precise, benefitting from the use of an F-Type-sourced steering rack.  After the conditions turn drier, he has another go at the wheel of the GT, this time really pushing it much harder, and relishing in the experience.

He ends up calling it “a complete weapon” in the dry! Check out the video after the virtual jump, below, to see why exactly it was that he ended up thinking that.

This AWD XJ Went Where No Jag Has Gone Before

As winter gets closer in the Northern Hemisphere, an all-wheel drive car may not seem such a bad idea for those regions where snow and ice are a constant presence during the cold months.

By introducing an all-wheel drive system on its XF and XJ luxury sedans, Jaguar has managed to appeal to customers in those areas where an all-wheel drive car is, if not a must, something certainly welcome.

However, I can’t imagine how a car can still function at temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius. My lack of technical background surely has something to do with it, but I find it highly remarkable that a posh Jaguar XJ can get to the Arctic Circle without no problems. It’s good to know your car can do that.

I have to say this is my favorite type of promotional video: it is a mix of very little to none PR talk (as the images speak louder than words regarding the capabilities of the XJ’s AWD system), and interesting facts – in this case about the remote Yukon region of Canada and life in the coldest town on earth.

Spied: Jaguar Begins Work on Redesigned XF Saloon

This prototype XF may look similar to the test mules for Jaguar's upcoming BMW 3-Series challenger that has been officially confirmed for a 2015 market launch, but there are differences on the body, with this mule also sporting a slightly longer wheelbase and wider tracks.

As noted by our spy photographers, what it is, is a mule for the redesigned XF that's scheduled for a late 2015 or early 2016 introduction.

The styling at this point remains a mystery, but Jaguar officials have hinted at the use of more aluminum on the next XF (chassis and body panels) to bring down the weight and gain in performance as well as fuel economy numbers and handling.

It is also said that the mid-size luxury model will adopt the Jaguar-Land Rover group's range of four-cylinder engines known as the Hotfire, offered alongside the bigger, more powerful and thirstier V6 and V8 units, in both rear- and all-wheel drive arrangements.

Care to Hear a Jaguar F-Type Coupe and See an F-Type Roadster do a Quick Burnout?

Jaguar has a good thing going on with its F-Type series that is currently available exclusively as a roadster, and it will get a whole lot better next year when it adds the coupe model, which in many peoples' view, will be the one to get.

In a recent video shot outside the Nürburgring, YouTube author 'swsthebest1994' had the opportunity to film Jaguar engineers in a camouflaged 2015 F-Type Coupe prototype revving its V6 engine (the V8 has quad pipes instead of the two central exhausts).

We don't know if the British firm's engineers were also in the green F-Type Roadster that was following the Coupe tester (what do you think?), but they sure put a smoky show when they left…

Jaguar E-Type Coupe and XK120 Found Resting in Barns

What many of us would do to own a classic sports car like the Jaguar E-Type, yet some people have these models locked up, rotting in barns literally for decades - can you believe that? This royal-blue 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 (Chassis 40) was abandoned in a barn in 1974 where it stayed until it was discovered by the Coys Auction house in France last month

“This is a really amazing find which has got the Jaguar world really excited," said Chris Routledge, Managing Partner at Coys, "The 1961 car is in amazing condition considering where it was left and interest is going off the scale."

The mechanic who works for the family that owns the car reported that the E-Type was last started about 5 years ago, but it still turns over freely. "Bodily, the car seems to be very solid, having been stored in such a dry climate all these years. The doors shut wonderfully and the bonnet gap is excellent," says Coys, which added that the interior of the car is in "very good order".

The classic Jag sports a 3.8-liter twin cam engine, which when new, produced 265bhp, hooked up to a Moss four-speed gearbox driving the rear pair of wheels.

The E-Type barn-find will be placed up for sale at the Coys Spirit of Motoring Auction on Saturday, October 26, at the Ascot Racecourse in the UK, where it will be joined by dozens of other models, including a second Jaguar that was locked up for years.

"We are also selling an XK120 Roadster reported to have a competition history that was found in a lock-up in Essex," said Routledge. "The last XK that we sold in this condition made over £90,000 and we expect the E-Type to do exceptionally well.”

The 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster is fitted with a 3.4-liter twin overhead camshaft engine, producing 160bhp via twin SU carburettors, and in its prime time, was said to be capable of 126mph (203km/h) and 0-60mph (96km/h) in 10.0 seconds. It is estimated that the car will fetch £15,000 - £25,000 (US$24,300-US$40,500 or €17,800-€29,500).
